Course overview

This one-day, hands-on training is designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of Python in the context of data analysis and data engineering use cases through instruction and interactive exercises (using Databricks Free Edition).

Learning outcomes

 

By the end of this course, participants will be familiar with the following concepts and techniques:

Understand the relevance of Python for data professionals, including its role in data engineering, data processing, and pipeline development.

Set up a practical development environment (Databricks Free account) and load course notebooks for hands-on learning.

Apply foundational Python concepts — such as data types, iteration, functions, and libraries — to solve real-world data engineering problems.

Differentiate Python from SQL and other programming languages, recognising the use cases of Python in modern data engineering workflows.

Work effectively in a notebook environment, performing common programming tasks such as looping, data manipulation, and library usage.

 

Intended audience


The intended audience for this course includes data analysts, business intelligence developers, aspiring data engineers and anyone responsible for data extraction, loading & transformation (ELT) tasks who are beginning their journey into Python programming. No prior programming experience is required - just a willingness to learn.

 

Delivery

 

This course is offered privately for groups of around 10–12 participants. Delivered either onsite or remotely by our experienced consultants, it can be tailored to meet your organisation’s specific needs.
